Alta Alella
While Alella is the smallest winegrowing area in Spain, Alta Alella is certainly not small. This modern winery brings a range of 28 different wines, some of them cava´s
On the other hand, Alta Alella is no mega producer. The philosophy of this family driven winery started in 1991. After a long career in international winemaking Josep maria Pujol Busquets founded Alta Alella together with his wife. His philosophy of experimenting and choosing quality over quantity has really paid off in the last years.
Fermentation of the grapes of different parcels takes place in separated smaller stainless tanks and wooden barrels. Depending on quality and possibilities it is later decided whether different batches are blended or not. Al grapes are grown organically en there even is a separated bodega for the production of natural wines. These are wines without addition of any sulphites.
It takes a time to get used to this new concept because natural wines are often not filtered and have the tendency of oxidation. But with the growing interest for natural products in general also natural wines are becoming more popular. Alta Alella offers a range of natural wines and even a natural cava.
Al together, this is a winery worth visiting, especially when you don’t have lots of time. This Bodega is very nearby Barcelona. WineFactory offers trips to Allela: see page ¨what we do¨
