Can Ràfols dels Caus
You are about to have an exceptional experience when visiting this winery in the Penedès (wine region close to Barcelona), due to the sharp contrast between history and modernity all under the same roof.
Most of the buidings at Can Ràfols dels Caus date from the 4th century when travelers needed food and shelter for the night. During time, this little fortress converted itself into a winery. Right in the middle you have a good view on the surrounding mountains with their own wineyards of almost 100 ha. The building in which the grapes used to be processed in earlier days are still intact and can also be visited.
It gets really breathtaking when entering the new wine cellar. These futuristic spaces are constructed completely undergound, fully integrated in the mountain. Respecting the natural surroundings and offering great views from the working spaces. This scenery (like from a James Bond movie) is a wonderfull example of the potential of Spanish wineries: modern techniques based on tradition, using local and unique characteristics and quality above quantity.
After all this, it is a good moment to try some of the wines. To us, the wines are a reflection of all of the above. Wine crafted with care and dedication, respecting en expressing the natural evironment.
