Abadal
Abadal is not only one of the larger wineries in Pla de Bages, it also has the most history. Although the name Abadal was given to the winery in 1983 the background of winemaking on this former family ground (Masia Roqueta) goes back for ages.
The winery and the close by vineyards are surrounded by forest and the views and the smell are very much dominated by it. Not hard to imagine that this forest has also a remarkable influence on the wines.
A visit to Abadal is unique because of the combination of history and modern winemaking. Al the old buildings and equipment are still intact and are there besides the modern buildings and installations. In this way the contrast is shown between traditional and modern winemaking. Also mentionable is the little museum with a range of traditional winemaking instruments.
Some of the wines in this winery are made just from autochthonous grapes which make some of them quite special. What to think of wines made solely of picapoll, mandó or sumoll. (Only to buy here). There are also wines made from the more common Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Syrah but in all of them we can find the characteristics of the surroundings.
We offer a visit to Abadal as part of our wine tour to Pla de Bages. On the page what we do you´ll find more information.
